Exist is made by Firstmover LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Exist collects, why, and who else sees it. If anything here is unclear, email jake@useexist.com and we will answer.
The short version:
Your Screen Time data stays on your phone. We never see how long you spend in any app, and we cannot see anything you do inside one. We hold your email address so you can sign in and so your streak survives a new phone. We use a small number of analytics services to understand whether the app works. We also share limited information with advertising platforms such as Meta, including your email address if you allow tracking, so we can measure and improve our ads. We do not sell your data.
What stays on your device:
Exist uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls, Device Activity and Managed Settings) to apply the limits and blocks you set. Apple designed these so that apps like ours never receive the underlying data.
Because of that, the following never leaves your phone:
* How long you spend in any app
* Which apps you have chosen to limit or block
* Your daily and weekly usage totals
* Anything you view, type or do inside another app
* Your schedules, limits, and always-allowed lists are stored on your device.
What we collect:
* Your account. When you create an account we store your email address and, if you provide them, your first name and a username. If you sign in with Apple or Google we receive whatever that service passes us, which is usually an email address and a name. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address Apple generates
* Your streak. So your progress survives reinstalling the app or changing phones, we store the dates on which you met your own goals, and the date you started. This is a list of dates. It contains no app names and no usage times.
* Your subscription status. Whether you are on a trial, subscribed, or not.
* Anything you send us. Feature requests, bug reports, and diagnostic reports you choose to send, along with whatever you write in them.
* Product analytics. Which screens you reach and which buttons you press inside Exist, so we can tell whether the app is working. These are tied to your account.
* App names, and how we handle them
When Exist interrupts you before opening an app, we record that an interruption happened, and whether you went in or walked away. That record includes the name of the app.
We deliberately separate this from you. It is sent through a channel that has no account, no email address and no name attached to it, and it is never joined to your profile. It tells us that interruptions before a given app lead to people walking away some percentage of the time. It does not tell us, and cannot tell us, which apps any particular person blocks.
Your usage times are never included, and no other Screen Time data is sent.
Who else sees your data:
We use a small number of providers. Each receives only what it needs.
* Supabase stores your account, your streak dates and your subscription status.
* Mixpanel receives product analytics, so we can tell whether the app works.
* RevenueCat receives your account identifier and purchase status, and manages your subscription.
* Stripe receives any payment details you enter on their checkout page, if you pay on the web.
* Advertising platforms we use, such as Meta, receive a record when Exist is installed or opened, and when a trial or purchase starts (including its price), along with basic device information. If you allow tracking when Exist asks, this includes your device's advertising identifier, which lets the platform connect that record to an ad you saw. If you allow tracking, we may also share your email address and name with these platforms, in a scrambled (hashed) form, so they can show our ads to people similar to our users. No advertising platform ever receives any Screen Time data.
Apple receives purchases made in the app, and crash reports.
We do not sell your personal data. Apart from what we send to advertising platforms, described above, we do not share it for advertising.
If you pay through the App Store, Apple handles the payment and we never see your card details. If you pay on the web, Stripe does, and the same is true.
Notifications:
Exist sends notifications to warn you before you reach a limit and to bring you back into the app when you ask for more time. You can turn these off in iOS Settings, though the app is much less useful without them.
How long we keep things
We keep your account and streak history for as long as your account exists. Analytics are retained for up to two years.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app: Settings, then Manage Account, then Delete Account, then Delete Forever. This removes your account, your streak history and your subscription record from our systems. It cannot be undone.
Deleting the app alone does not delete your account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email jake@useexist.com and we will act on it.
Children
Exist is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is significant we will tell you in the app.
